CityGuide DMS - Documentation - GpsCom

 
The additional program GpsCom enables you to read a GPS receiver which is connected to your PC or Notebook via the Com port. As an option, you can then record the data in a local file. This requires an up to date Java Virtual Machine, which is available free of charge from http://www.java.com


 
Apart from this, GpsCom can relay this information in real-time to an active CityGuide DMS which is able to use it to plot the position of the GPS receiver on the map.

 

Note:

Please be aware that this tool is not available in all versions of CityGuide !
 

This depends on whether or not the publisher of the specific version of CityGuide has included the tool. E.g. on CDROM or DVD.

Please also be aware that the current version of the program will only run on Microsoft Windows.

  Using GpsCom

 
If you have a CDROM/DVD version, you can usually find the tool in this folder:
 
"cdrom:\tools\GpsCom".
 
 

Before using GpsCom, you should first copy the tool from the CDROM/DVD to your local hard drive. e.g.
 
"c:\cityguide\GpsCom".
 

Now start the program via the batch file. e.g.

"c:\cityguide\GpsCom\GpsCom.bat"
 

Now configure settings such as baud rate and COM port, and make the connection to the GPS receiver.

 


 

 
Now start CityGuide DMS and activate the GPS mode via the relevant menu (1) or the   Quickbar (2) ...
 

 
(1) Menu GPS
(2) Quickbar GPS on/off
(3) Register-Card GPS (only if GPS-Mode is active)
(4) List of Devices
(5) Mode "Track device" on/off
(6) Information about the selected device

 
Please note that the analysis and depiction of end device data in CityGuide DMS is optional !
 

In order to simply record the data from your GPS receiver, GpsCom can be used as a stand-alone application. For further information on this, please refer to the documentation for GpsCom. This may be found in the following folder:

Please take note of the following when using GpsCom:

  • Make sure that local port 7778 is not blocked or occupied by other programs !
     
     
  • GpsCom currently logs only the NMEA-GPRMC data-sentence !
